Design Process:
1. Research & Discovery:
Studied the book’s themes, historical context, and audience. Reviewed liturgical aesthetics and feminist design motifs. Compared various covers for religious memoirs to identify gaps and opportunities.
2. Moodboard & Color Exploration:
Explored soft gradients, purples, and cloud motifs to evoke spirituality and transcendence. Settled on a palette that suggests healing, defiance, and sacred space.
3. Typography:
Selected an elegant serif typeface with refined accents to convey authority and sacredness, while using directional flourishes to echo ancient texts and liturgical design.
4. Imagery:
Incorporated a reverent, full-color photograph of the author in vestments. This not only humanizes the story but powerfully places her in the role the Church once denied her.
5. Back Cover Layout:
Organized a mix of endorsements, bio, and narrative pull-quotes into a reader-friendly layout. Used subtle transparency effects and borders to unify the design.
